SnowFest Racing pigeon Sale

2008 RRV SnowFest & Auction
Sterling, Illinois

Rock River Valley Racing Pigeon Club had another successful SnowFest and auction, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. Flyers from 7 states, 2 AU board members, Bill Mitiu and Brad Hoggan, plus the World of Wings President, Jim Gabler, were in attendance.

Friday afternoon, members and guests toured the loft of Merle Halgren, Hein Aikens, Doug Harms and Jim Gabler's America's Dream Loft. It was a beautiful fall day and everyone enjoyed the visiting and viewing of the different lofts and birds. That evening, members plus some of the wives, and guests gathered at the Wagon Wheel restaurant for dinner and socializing. Snacks were served and dinner was available for those interested. A silent auction of 4 birds and a basket was held. Door prizes were given to the ladies present.

The auction was held the following day (Saturday). Birds were on display at 10:00 with the auction starting promptly at noon. Pres. Dr. Gary Whitebread commented on the birds/read pedigrees and Bruce Jackson again did an excellent job of auctioneering. A total of 110 birds were sold by 3:00. Phone bids had been taken both prior to and during the auction. Birds were sold to local flyers plus those in adjoining states in addition to Minnesota and California. That evening several members, their wives and out of town guests enjoyed dinner at the Candlelight Restaurant. It was an enjoyable and relaxing ending to a successful weekend.

Outsiders are amazed a how well this club works together. Everyone pitches in to make the events run smoothly. Even after the auction, members had the room cleaned and ready for Saturday evening. RRV is truly fortunate to have such good workers and great flyers as members.

"Thank You" to Lew Digby and Doug Harms, Co-Chairmen, for putting together a fun weekend.
